- Willing to think outside of the box
- Serve as a willing participant in the mentoring relationship
- Desire to achieve personal, social, and academic success
- Receptive to advice, counsel, and constructive criticism
- Share new skills with mentors
- Serve as a spokesperson for the mentoring program including positive stories
- Offer kind words as a source of inspiration
- Support the School of Science and Technology retention initiatives
- Refer others who may benefit from the mentoring program
The Responsibilities of the Protégé
- Commit to excelling in personal growth, social skills, and academics
- Adhere to the rules and regulations of the mentoring program
- Establish a close working relationship with the mentor
- Report to the mentor those concerns that interfere with personal, social, and/or academic performance
- Accept responsibility for personal, social, and academic success
- Attend scheduled meetings, workshops and programs conducted by the mentoring program
- Share new skills with mentors
- Transfer knowledge gained to fellow students at Norfolk State University
- Confront inappropriate behavior and attitudes exhibited by peers or mentors
- Work with the mentor to establish personal and professional contacts
- Share positive information and success stories
