Financial Aid Purpose: The purpose of Norfolk State University’s financial aid program is to provide assistance to qualified students who, without such aid would be unable to attend the university. Aid is awarded on the basis of need as determined through the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) Form. Students are expected to demonstrate, whenever possible, sacrifice of earned resources and family contribution. To apply for financial click on the link: http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/. Types of aid include scholarships and grants, loans and employment. Applications and additional information may also be obtained at the front counter of the Office of Student Financial Aid, Harrison B. Wilson Hall, Room 130. The University offers a number of awards each year to qualified students who have been accepted for admission. Some of these awards are available only to Virginia residents, while others are given without regard to state residency. A student must be enrolled as a at least half-time (6 credit hours) matriculated student and must be in good academic standing to be eligible for financial assistance. However, certain programs require a student to maintain a full-time status (at least 12 credit hours for undergraduate and at least 9 hours for graduate). Financial aid is awarded for one year only, upon reapplication and continued eligibility. The priority deadline for applying for Norfolk State University's administrated financial aid is April 1 for the ensuing academic year. Later deadlines are established on an annual basis for the Federal Pell Grant and Student Loan programs. An entering student must be accepted for admission (matriculating) before receiving a financial aid award offer. Award notifications for on-time applicants are normally mailed to them before June 1.
